Forget All the Meatballs! Try Turkish Kofte Recipe Instead

We all love to try new recipes while following a low carb diet, and frankly, I seem to have found a treasure with this recipe.

This is an excellent recipe from one of the Izmir districts of Turkish cuisine. It’s pretty popular. There are many versions of it but now I bring you a version that contains only 3g of carbs.

Tire Kebab is actually a dish served with some pita bread underneath, cooked cherry tomatoes, and cooked green peppers on the side. Although this sounds perfect, this low-carb version is also quite ambitious. So much so that you do not even realize that there is a need for bread under it.

Besides all this combination of flavors, they are quite filling. It was tried and I didn’t feel hungry until the next meal, so much so that I even forgot my snack.

Read on for the step-by-step recipe for this excellent dish, and you’ll thank me later.

Recipe – 15min prep / 20min cooking time

To start preparing, take the ground beef in a bowl that you can knead comfortably.

Add salt and pepper to the ground beef and knead for a long time.

Tip: The kneading step is an important step for ingredients to soften and combine. Then knead well for 10 minutes.

Keep a bowl of water next to you that you can wet your hands with from time to time.

Then divide the thoroughly kneaded ground beef into 12 equal parts.

Thread each piece onto skewer and make thin kebabs.

Wet your hands for each Kofte.

Continue until the 12 piece of ground beef is finished.

Now let it chill in the fridge for at least 1 hour.

Recommendation: Chiling time of a recipe is very tedious for everyone, I totally understand. But just like a pastry, meat should be cooled for at least 1 hour. So they taste better when you cook them.

You can start making the sauce 40 minutes after you put the ground beef in the refrigerator.

Peel and grate the tomatoes.

Then melt 2 tbsp butter in a medium skillet.

Add the tomatoes to the butter and cook.
(first cook on high heat, after it starts to boil, cook on low heat)

When the tomatoes reach the consistency of a homogeneous sauce, add paprika, salt and pepper and turn off the stove.

Take 3 tbsp of butter in another pan and melt it.

Gently remove the chilled meatballs from the skewer.

Fry the patties back and forth in this pan.

Now, as the last step, there is the fun part, the portioning phase.

Spread tomato sauce on a flat plates for portioning.

Place the meatballs on it.

Garnish with some parsley leaves.

Tip: If you don’t mind getting more butter, you can drizzle some fried butter on the Tire Kofte after you put them on the plates, just before serving.

Bottom Line

Turkish kofte recipe is prepared very quickly and offers you a spicy heavenly taste.

However, on a day when you are not following a low-carb diet, add pita bread slices to the bottom of the plate in addition to this whole recipe. For presentation, serve with a tablespoon of Greek yogurt, chopped raw onions, roasted cherry tomatoes and peppers, and 2 tablespoons of cooked rice.
