Forest Kebab is a dish unique to a Turkish city, where the chefs of Ottoman Cuisine have mastered it. It contains plenty of meat, peas, carrots, and vegetables such as potatoes, and it is cooked very slowly for 45-50 minutes on the lowest heat.

Although there is no detailed information about where the name came from, this easy-to-prepare, nutritious, healthy, and very popular dish is usually served with cooked rice and a bowl of Greek yogurt.

  • Steak (Cubed, 1 pound)
  • Potato (2, medium)
  • Green peas (1 cup, cooked)
  • Carrot (1, medium)
  • Yellow onion (1, medium)
  • Tomato paste (1 tbsp)
  • All-purpose flour (2 tbsp)
  • Butter (2 tbsp)
  • Olive oil (1 tbsp)
  • Paprika, salt, pepper, and thyme to taste


  1. Mix the cubed meats with 1/2 tablespoons of olive oil and 2 tablespoons of flour.
  2. Bring a non-stick saucepan and preheat it.
  3. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil.
  4. Put the cube steaks in it and fry them.
  5. When the meat absorbs the water they release, take it out of the pot, put it on a plate, and then let it sit.
  6. Finely chop an onion.
  7. Fry the onions in the same nonstick pan. Tip: At this stage, you can add a little more olive oil if needed.
  8. Chop the carrots into small cubes.
  9. Then add them to the onions and continue frying.
  10. Wash the potatoes well and cut them into small cubes.
  11. Finally, add them to the other vegetables and continue frying.
  12. After the vegetables are fried, add the meat, 1 tablespoon of tomato paste, and 1 tablespoon of butter, and keep sautéing.
  13. Add enough hot water to cover the ingredients.
  14. Add all the spices and salt – except the thyme.
  15. Then, cook on low heat until the cubed steaks become tender.
  16. After the meat is thoroughly tender, add the cooked peas.

  18. Fry the thyme in the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter.
  19. Then, drizzle it over the forest kebab.
