What Is Banana Bread?
When someone mentions banana bread, two things spring to mind: first, bananas, and second, bread.
From the Neolithic era onward, bread has been around for years. Men in the wild use stones to smash the grains before mixing them with water.
On the other hand, Bananas come from Southeast Asia, perhaps in or around the Malaysian area. It had reached as far as Papua New Guinea and India by 2,000 B.C. What wasn’t typical back then, though. So banana bread didn’t originate there.
The concept of banana bread most likely originated with the ancient Greeks. There have been several references to the fruit even though it wasn’t indigenous to the area.
In the 1930s, modern banana bread was created. With the introduction of baking powder and fast bread, it gained popularity.
Baking powder, also known as sodium bicarbonate, took the role of yeast as a leavening ingredient because quick bread rises far quicker than bread made with yeast, which takes hours.
When home baking quickly became the rage in the 1960s, banana bread saw another surge in popularity. In addition, several other varieties of banana bread were developed.
To increase diversity in their offerings, bakeries added almonds, chocolate chips, and other fruits to simple banana bread. A vegan variation is also available in which tofu or soy is used in place of the eggs.
