Mashed Potato Cakes

I am confident that you will greatly enjoy fried mashed potato cakes, thanks to their few ingredients and quick preparation. The most important trick is to gradually add flour to achieve a thick dough.

The dough should neither be too hard nor too soft. For this reason, I recommend shaping the dough with hands that are slightly moistened. Now, let's proceed to the step-by-step recipe to gain a clearer understanding of what I am discussing.

Prep Time 15 minutes
Cook Time 25 minutes
Total Time 40 minutes

Ingredients

  • 3 medium potatoes
  • 1/2 bunch parsley
  • 1 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 egg
  • 2tbsp. oil for frying (fry it in 1.5 cup of oil amount. the 2 tbsp. is how it will absorb on average)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Wash the potatoes thoroughly.
  2. Peel and chop them into large pieces.
  3. Then, I boil the chopped potatoes.
  4. Take the boiled potatoes into a deep bowl and mash them with a fork.
  5. Add finely chopped parsley, an egg, salt, and pepper and mix.
  6. Finally, add the flour little by little and knead.
  7. Put water in a small bowl and wet your hands frequently with this water while kneading.
  8. Get a slightly soft dough.
  9. Wet your hands again, shaping the dough into a round to medium-thick flat patties.
  10. Put the patties on a plate and refrigerate them for 15 minutes.
  11. Bring a frying pan and preheat it.
  12. Pour the frying oil into the pan and start heating the oil.
  13. Add the potato cakes to the heated oil and fry both sides until they brown.
  14. Be careful not to fry them too much. It is enough for them to turn golden brown.

That’s all!

Notes

  • Frying with sunflower oil will make the potato cakes tastier, but you can fry them in olive oil for a lighter version.
  • Place the potato cakes on a towel after frying so the oil drains well.

Fried Mashed Potato Cakes – Tips for Fry

French fries, chicken fries, meatballs, zucchini, or cheese sticks… There are some secret tips you should know no matter what fries you’re going to make.

By learning these tips and recommendations, you will know how to make the best fries.

Potatoes

Potatoes are very valuable for all of us. Because they are the vegetables we fry the most in our homes. That’s why we wanted to start with it first.

The trick to frying potatoes is to soak them in extra cold and salty water for a while before frying them.

This way they will absorb less oil and will be crispy.

Also, when frying them, make sure the oil is very hot and does not keep the fire at the highest level.

Another condition for having the best fries is choosing potatoes without green color parts on them. If you make sure they’re fresh, they won’t need as much oil as they’ll be ready sooner. Therefore, they absorb less oil.

Eggplants

The best eggplant and zucchini fry under the same conditions. But there are a few other tricks as eggplants absorbing more oil.

After peeling the eggplants into strips, you cut them as you wish, but do you fry them immediately afterward?

If your answer is yes, try frying them after resting them in salty cold water for at least 15 min. (before chopping them)

Then cut as you wish.

Afterward, soak them in salty cold water again (at least 15 minutes).

Before proceeding to the frying stage, drain the excess water and even wipe the remaining water with the help of paper towels.

This allows them to fry dryly and therefore not absorb much oil.

You will see that the water has become very dark. This is the bitter taste of eggplant. This process allows you to get rid of that bitter taste and eat more delicious eggplant fries.

Pepper and Tomato

If you want it to absorb less oil while frying vegetables, you can put 1 teaspoon of vinegar in it. In this way, the oil will not penetrate into the vegetables and they will have a delicious consistency.
