5-Day Lemon Detox Diet Meal Plan (PDF)

The lemon detox (also known as the Master Cleanse) is not a medically recognized detox and is not endorsed by dietitians or gastroenterologists. Your liver and kidneys already detoxify your body and do not need lemon juice or maple syrup to function. This pattern is not safe for people with diabetes, low blood pressure, kidney or liver disease, a history of disordered eating, or for anyone who is pregnant, breastfeeding, or under 18. Please read the alternative plan below instead of a prolonged lemon-only fast.

Who This Plan Is For

Because a lemon-only fast is not evidence-based, the plan we recommend below is a gentle, whole-food reset built around lemon water in the morning and Mediterranean-style meals for the rest of the day. It is written for healthy adults who want to cut back on ultra-processed foods, added sugar, and alcohol for a week without starving themselves. If you have a medical condition or take daily medication, please check with your clinician first.

  • Healthy adults looking to reset after a period of heavy eating, travel, or drinking.
  • People who want a simple, structured week of cleaner meals without extreme restriction.
  • Readers curious about lemon detoxes who want a safer, more sustainable alternative.
  • Home cooks who prefer Mediterranean-style vegetables, olive oil, and lean protein.
  • Anyone who has tried the Master Cleanse before and felt lightheaded, weak, or unwell.
Editorial note. This is a restrictive eating pattern that is not appropriate for everyone. Do not follow it if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, under 18, have a history of eating disorders, are underweight, or take medication for blood sugar, blood pressure, or thyroid function without first speaking with your clinician.  Are you ready to learn about the lemon detox diet, which will maximize your energy and help you lose 6 lbs. in 5 days?

All About the Lemon Detox Diet

Lemon is a very effective food for weight loss. It is a powerful source of antioxidants that help burn fat by speeding up metabolism. This feature protects you from harmful bacteria by strengthening your health. Lemons prevent constipation and benefit intestinal function, which will help you lose weight quickly. Moreover, lemons are potent diuretics that can help you get rid of edema in your body. This makes lemon essential for a great detox diet. As summer approaches, the lemon detox diet is ideal for those who want to lose weight quickly. Lemon contains plenty of vitamin C and is also rich in calcium and potassium minerals. These features distinguish the diet from others and will make you feel more energetic and healthy while applying it.

What is the Lemon Detox Diet?

First, let’s clarify that this diet should be followed for five days. It is a good idea not to follow it for extended periods. It helps you lose 6 lbs in five days. While the lemon diet will help refresh your body, it mainly consists of lemon juice. Consuming lemon juice enables you to get rid of toxins and lose weight, but it is unsuitable for a long-term diet.

Lemon Detox Diet Meal Plan

We have prepared a sample meal plan to help you lose 6 lbs in 5 days. It is essential for your diet that you consume foods only at meals and do not exceed the recommended amount. You can choose the type of vegetables and meat you eat according to your taste. The critical aspect of this diet is to ensure you lose weight without hunger. While dieting, you should avoid foods such as fat, sugar, salt, and pastries. You can add a teaspoon of honey to lemon juice and lemonade, but we recommend doing this once daily. Instead, you can add mint leaves for a refreshing effect and taste. Before breakfast:
  • 1 cup of lukewarm water, half a lemon (lemon to be squeezed into water)
Breakfast:
  • 1 slice of wheat bread
  • 1 boiled egg
  • Greens
  • 4-5 olives
Snack:
  • 1 cup of lemonade
Lunch:
  • 1 bowl of nonfat yogurt
  • 5-7 walnuts or hazelnuts
Snack:
  • 1 cup of lukewarm water, half a lemon (lemon to be squeezed into water)
Dinner: An hour before bedtime:
  • 1 cup of lukewarm water, half a lemon (lemon to be squeezed into water)
Consuming too much lemon can have a negative effect on your body. It is important for your diet that you do not go beyond the specified measures. People with blood pressure and diabetes should definitely consult their doctor before applying the lemon diet. During the diet, it is recommended to walk for half an hour every day and to drink 2 liters of water to accelerate your weight loss. It is normal to have differences in weight loss due to the different metabolic rate of people.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Master Cleanse actually detox anything?

No. Your liver, kidneys, gut, skin, and lungs already remove waste and drug metabolites around the clock, and no clinical study has shown that a lemon-juice-and-maple-syrup fast improves that process. What you are actually doing on a lemon-only fast is a very low-calorie liquid diet, and the short-term drop on the scale is mostly water and glycogen, not stored toxins.

Is it safe to do for 7 to 10 days?

For most people, no. A week or more of near-zero protein and very few calories can cause muscle loss, fatigue, dizziness, low blood pressure, headaches, constipation, gallstones, and blood sugar swings. It is especially risky if you have diabetes, take blood pressure or thyroid medication, or have a history of disordered eating. The safer choice is the 7-Day Gentle Reset table above.

Will I lose weight?

You will lose weight on the scale in the short term, mostly water, glycogen, and gut contents. Most of that comes back within a few days of normal eating. Studies on very-low-calorie liquid diets consistently show poor long-term results and a high rate of weight regain. A modest daily calorie deficit built on balanced meals is slower but far more likely to stick.

What are the actual risks?

Reported problems include hypoglycemia (especially in people with diabetes), fainting, electrolyte imbalances, dental enamel erosion from acidic drinks, heartburn, muscle loss, and rebound overeating once the fast ends. People with kidney or liver disease, eating disorders, or on certain medications are at higher risk. If you feel lightheaded, confused, or unwell at any point, stop the plan and speak with your clinician.

What should I do instead if I want to feel lighter?

Try the 7-Day Gentle Reset table above. It keeps the morning cup of warm lemon water that many people enjoy, then adds real Mediterranean-style meals: vegetables, whole grains, legumes, fish, eggs, olive oil, and yogurt. You cut ultra-processed food, added sugar, and alcohol without starving. Most people feel less bloated and more energetic within a few days without the fatigue of a true fast.
